What makes paula different?

Policing in an urban city provided Paula with firsthand skills in de-escalation, communication, and collaboration in a diversified environment. She was promoted twice in her career, learning the nuances of leadership, management, and decision making in an unpredictable setting. Paula excelled at problem solving, providing solutions for some of the failing departments including animal control and public relations. Through her extensive training and experience, she gained a wealth of knowledge in what it takes to be a leader, how to motivate employees, and some of the common pitfalls in supervision which lead to high turnover and poor morale. Upon her retirement, Paula was hired by one of the largest healthcare organizations in CT, serving as a program manager for public safety. As the workplace violence subject matter expert, Paula formed individual safety trainings based on work environments because workplace violence is not a one size fits all. She also provides consults on workplace violence issues for risk management. Making the switch to the corporate world opened Paula's eyes to the many gaps which exist in managerial/leadership training, promotional processes, and workplace violence mitigation, specifically, effective de-escalation tactics and customer service.

At a time when employers are struggling to recruit and retain employees, it is imperative that those in managerial/supervisor positions understand their roles and responsibilities when it comes to retention: people don’t leave jobs, they leave bosses.
